2009 – HERE WE GO AGAIN

Only having just recovered from eating 3 tons of Elf and Reindeer Pie, washed down with lots of Santas finest Ale, ( which Santa, the tight git, only gave up after we knocked him about a bit, and threatend to use him for firewood ) we return back to our desks ready to do what we do best…

Drink too much.

But seriously, what we’re up to is this…

-  Fixing up some issues with Astro Tripper. These include looking at the difficulty, which some people are finding a bit excessive. The spider boss on level 3 seems to be a sticking point, so we’ll look at doing some easyfication on him.

-  We really want to get Astro Tripper into the US Store. It will get there, but we still dont really know when. We plan to moan about it to whoever will listen at Sony, till it gets done.

-  Working on another little experiment titled Gemini Rings, which is very much in the formative stages right now. It’s not a shooter, although you do shoot stuff kind of… and there’s rings… coloured rings. Its lovely, honest. We’ll bring more on this as soon as we can.

-  We’re also considering adding more challenge games to Astro Tripper. The challenge games have surprised us with their popularity. We thought they would be a small distraction, but it seems you guys enjoy the short sharp loveliness of it, as do we.

Finer details on all of the above asap.

    Happy to hear about the possible addition of new challenge games. I actually play them more than the “normal” game !

    I personally think the level 3 boss is perfect, you dont want a boss to be too easy (this is on hard). Took me a few play throughs to get passed him, but doing so i really started nailing the first world, getting 16k+ time bonus on the first two levels and 25k+ on the boss i think, a lot better then the 5k i was getting, plus this game plain rocks and for £3.19 is a steal.

    We love the challange games too! In fact, we have been so impressed with them, that short sharp levels will be something we focus on for future games.

    I think the main issue with the Boss is some players are unaware that the central core is what kills it, rather than the actual difficulty. For some, all the weapons have been blasted and the player is left not knowing what to do. We have added some small visual cues to help focus the eye on the core when the spider opens up and added a small delay before it closes up again on easy mode. Hopefully that should help.

    Yes, I found the spider boss to be a massive pain at the start, purely because I had no idea what was going on! I think it was because the time limit was a little tight, so I wasn’t able to experiment enough. Once I worked it out it was a breeze though, so don’t make it too easy!

    If I can make another suggestion for the update, I haven’t really got into the challenge games at all as I assumed it was an “endless attack” style mode which wouldn’t interest me – but from what you seem to be saying they do have an end condition? Might be good if these were better explained.

    Oh yes, and can I suggest more levels ;-)

    Overall, a great game at a great price, good work guys.

    The challange games are endless. Eventually you will die. The single player game has lots of end conditions, so we wanted the challange games to provide something different.

    Glad to hear it’s still on track for the US store. I really can’t wait. I guess Mutant Storm Reloaded and Empire will have to tide me over for now.

    The cube challenge room is excellent, high scores now rule my life! Ranked 52 and counting.

    Also nice touch being able to import your own playlist as a soundtrack. Not being able to restart on the level you died on during the proper game sometimes feels a bit harsh though.
